SaveSight Vision Centre is home to some pretty incredible technology, but it’s all for nothing without a professional staff to go with it. We’re lucky to have both, offering clients in Owen Sound and surrounding areas comprehensive eye care services in one convenient location. From repairing frames in our full service lab to fitting contact lenses to performing routine eye exams and advanced diagnostic testing, we provide quality, informative vision services for the whole family.

We're open Monday through Friday
What is Covered under OHIP?
Generally OHIP provides the following coverage:
**please ask our staff if you have questions about which conditions are covered under OHIP.
A comprehensive eye examination involves a series of tests to assess vision as well as ocular health. A careful case history will be taken and visual acuity tested followed by a determination of the eye’s refractive status such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and/or presbyopia. Binocular vision and ocular motility will also be examined. An ocular health assessment including slit-lamp examination, tonometry and opthalmoscopy will then be done and treatment options discussed with the patient. Timely referrals to other eye-care specialists will be provided if needed.
For the convenience of our patients, SaveSight Vision Centre carries dry eye products as well as multivitamins for eye health.
We carry a variety of lubricating eye drops. We offer prescription and over the counter products that provide long lasting protection of your eye comfort.
We carry the AREDS formulation of multi vitamins for eyes.
Lid towelettes are also available. These towelettes provide a non-irritating, hypo-allergenic lid cleanser for contact lens wearers and those with blepharitis.
Laser Eye Surgery Co-Management
If you wish to be free of glasses or contact lenses, our optometrists can help you determine if you are a good candidate for laser eye surgery. We also provide pre-procedure consultations and post-operative care of patients undergoing laser eye surgery.
We are a TLC affiliate office and we also refer patients to the Grey Bruce Laser Vision Centre in Owen Sound.
Our state-of-the-art technology, computer-assisted digital retinal camera allows us to see with great clarity structures on the retina (the inner surface of the back of the eye). This allows for the early detection of common age-related eye disorders such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
Optic Nerve Scanning
The optic nerve scan is proven technology for early detection (and progression) of glaucoma. Since structural changes in the optic nerve precede visual field loss, often by several years, the optic nerve scan can detect glaucoma before vision is lost. It also detects thinning of the nerve fibre layer around the optic nerve.
Visual Field Testing
The visual field test provides us with valuable information about your central and peripheral (side) vision. While looking at a central fixation point, small lights of varying intensity are individually flashed in various locations. The test determines what you can see, where you can see, and how well you can see it. It maps out your "visual field."
Knowing where you don't see well can be helpful with your daily activities and may keep you safe. Follow-up visual field exams are important to determine whether your vision loss is stable, or progressing.
Optical Coherence Tomography
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a recently developed retinal imaging technique that has advanced vision care tremendously. OCT provides cross-sectional images of living tissues with a resolution on the order of 10 microns. The ability to make such repeatable, high-resolution images of the retina is what makes the OCT so invaluable. OCT can be used to diagnose and/or monitor such conditions as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular surface disorders and glaucoma. It is painless, non-invasive and does not require any drops.
Visual Evoked Potential (VEP)/ Pattern Electroretinography (ERG) Testing
We are proud to say that at the time we purchased this new system, we were one of only seven other offices in Canada currently offering this test.
This advanced state of technology provides your doctor with painless, non-invasive vision testing that utilizes electrophysiological technology, including Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) and pattern Electoretinography (ERG). The purpose of these tests is to provide comprehensive information to assist your doctor in better planning your treatment (if needed) and monitoring the results.
Visual Evoked Potential (VEP): this test measures the electrical activity in the vision system as well as the strength of the signal reaching your visual cortex and how fast it gets there. The VEP technology device helps determine how your eyes communicate with your brain in a way that no other instrument or vision test can.
Pattern Electroretinography (ERG): This test measures the function of your retina (the light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye). The test records how well the cells of the retina are conveying electrical impulses within the eye. The ERG results have been demonstrated to aid in the diagnosis and treatment planning of many vision disorders.
Remember that receipts for non-insured eye exams, tests and prescription eyewear can be used under the medical expenses portion of your income tax. We are happy to bill BlueCross and Green Shield for services covered by your plans.
